2024 will be a year of saving money and mindful spending for me – a little shopping detox, if you may. We are constantly seeing ads and promotions on social media to persuade us to buy stuff we don’t need.
Let’s inspire each other to make a conscious effort not to waste our hard-earned money on stuff we don’t need. Here are the things I’m not buying any more in 2024:
Aesop Hand Cream
It was a 125 dirhams 75 ml hand cream, equivalent to three 600 ml Vaseline lotion. It made my hand feel prutty for sure, yet for someone who likes to hand-wash every 30 minutes, I figured it was not the best use of 125 dirhams.
Gin
In 2023, I came to like drinking gin and tonic whenever I’m bored. Lol. This year, I will not be buying Roku Gin anymore, and I should stop spending money on alcohol.
Anastasia Brow Freeze Styling Wax
I do naturally have bushy brows that sometimes go wild, hence the freeze wax adventure in the hopes of keeping them tame. But on the contrary, it wasn’t as good as what the marketing was (and still does) claiming it to be. It leaves white flakes on my brows when it dries, and not quite the look I was expecting for a 106 dirhams 8g pot.
Laneige Radian-C Cream
I was looking for a cheaper alternative to my all-time favourite moisturizer and I stumbled across the Laneige brand while scanning products at Sephora. After a couple of pots, I realized maybe I was not getting the full value of what I was paying for from the product itself because a fraction of its cost probably went to its cute little packaging of 30 ml that lasts only for a month. Every time I run out and get a new one, I’m also getting another pot to dispose of.
Baccarat Rouge 540 Perfume
I really like this perfume. Its fresh woody scent is so elegant and makes you feel like you have an accomplished life. Haha. But for now, it has to go. With my financial goals ahead and spending 10,000 php on 35 ml perfume, they just don’t align.
This year’s effort to be mindful of how I spend my money is not only aiming to save some but most importantly, to give me a mental space to be more thoughtful and purposeful when shopping. It is also a way towards Minimalism. It holds a special place in my being and I just believe in less consumption-less stuff. I hope I inspire you to spend your money on things that truly matter and are worth it to you and achieve a more fulfilling life focused on appreciating what you have rather than going for the next new thing.
Ciao!
